Here are several questions we are asked frequently here at the winery.

"Why does Electra have a screw cap now?"
We decided to put screw caps on our Electra and Red Electra because it preserves the natural effervescence, and the peach and melon aromas much better than any cork could.

"Why can't Quady ship to the state I live in?"
Each state requires certain license’s, permits, fees, taxes, etc. We have opened several new states recently and are working on getting as many of the other states open as soon as possible. Please call or email us and let us know which state you are located so we can be sure to work on getting your state on our shipping list. 1-800-733-8068

"Why do you call your ports Starboard?"
Because it is not port. Genuine port comes from a region in Portugal, the Douro River Valley. Starboard - the nautical term for right (as opposed to port - left) is unique to our place.

"At about what temperature should I serve the dessert wines?"
We prefer our wines be served slightly chilled. An excellent method we like to use is to store the wine in the refrigerator, then remove it just before dinner. By dessert time the wine will be at the perfect temperature.

"When will Red Electra be available?"
We have just bottled and labeled our 2006 vintage of Red Electra. We currently have a generous amount available, but it sells out quickly every year. We recomend stocking up with enough now.

"Who makes your beautiful labels?"
Ardison Phillips, from L.A., is the creator of our Essensia, Elysium, Electra, and Red Electra labels.

"When is your crush season?"
We start crushing our grapes in August and finish in October. If you are fortunate enough to visit the winery during this time you can witness first hand how your favorite wines are made. We have even had visitors crush grapes with their feet.

"How many cases do you produce per year?"
We currently produce around 40,000 cases per year.

"What are your tasting room hours?"
Our tasting room is open Monday through Friday 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Saturdays & Sundays 12:00 to 4:30 p.m. We are closed for holidays.

"How does Electra and Red Electra get its fizz?"
Electra and Red Electras natural effervescence is derived from filtering the actively fermenting wine. This process removes the yeast while leaving the spritz.

"What is Vya Aperitif?"
Vya Aperitif is our version of vermouth which will make the perfect martini or manhattan and is also wonderful to drink by itself. We make two versions of Vya, Vya Sweet and Vya Dry. Vya Dry emulates a French vermouth, while Vya Sweet is aligned with Italian vermouths. Our favorite drink is a "French Kiss", which is made with 75% Vya Dry, 25% Vya Sweet, a sliver of orange peel, and ice. All of the Vyas are infused with herbs and flowers which give it a very soothing aroma.

"What are the bricks in your wine for?"
We don't actually put "bricks" in our wine, brix is an enology term used to describe the sugar levels. Of course the actual numbers are closely guarded secrets, but we like our grapes to be in the neighborhood of 25 brix.

"Are there any more wineries in the area?"
Yes, there are several wineries in Madera. A list of them is available at the Madera Vintners web site.
